Final Design - Evaluations

This is my final design for my magazine cover. I think it meets the expectations for a standard magazine. I used an image as the background itself as it takes up more face, the larger image makes the magazine seem more happy. I used the white text because it stood out best against the background. I used the blueish colour for the title because blue is normally a calm cover. It could give the idea that college has a calm environment compared to secondary/primary schools. I have aligned the "main flash" text to the right, so it does not over lap with the picture. I aligned the over article to the left. This balances both sides out and doesn't appear to make one side more busy than the other. I used another photograph I had taken previously to cover up an inappropriate logo. I had to make the image slightly larger because it didn't cover the whole logo up. This made the magazine look messy as there were two pictures overlapping with each other. The reader would not know what one to look at. If I had more time available I would try and use up more of the space. As on the left side there is a gap, but other than that I am quite pleased with my cover.

This is the final design for my contents page. I kept the design very simple. I used the same blue for the title again, so it has it's own personal feel to it. I didn't make the font too small as there would be too much space left. I might of made the font smaller if I had more pages. The writing is legible though. If I was given more time I would of included an image or even a few images that related to the front cover or just taken a few more of groups of students.

Final Touch Ups.

Today I have alligned my text. My writing seems to be more legible and blends in to the magazine more. I kept the colour scheme of my magazine simple. My model for my magazine had a logo which would seem inappropriate for a college magazine so I used another photograph that I had taken to obscure the logo. I used the same font all over for the front cover; excluding the title. I done this to make the magazine look neat and not to fussy. For the mainflash I made the font bold. I done this because I wanted this story to stand out the most considering it is the main article for my magazine. I used another font for the main title because I wanted the main title to have it's own personal feel to it. I wanted it to stand out slightly more than the rest of the cover.

Flat plans

This is my flat plan of my front cover. I realised I left too much space between the heading and the main flash. In the final magazine I plan to move the main flash up. I layed it out this way because I think its nice and simple for a college magazine. I kept the title simple "S.D.C weekly" S.D.C being short for Sussex Downs College, then I added weekly because it is going to be a weekly produced magazine. I decided to use my main picture as a background itself as it does not leave it as gappy.

This is my flat plan of my contents page. I am hoping to produce a better version. I layed my contents page out like this because its easy to navigate. I haven't included too many pages so it isn't too fussy.

Magazine Photographs

This is my chosen photograph for my magazine.
I chose this image because it meets the expectations for my cover. It has a plain background, so you don't get distracted and you focus more on the person. This shot is called a medium close up. He is looking directly at the camera, and him smiling makes the magazine look more fun for a college. It gives the idea that college is a happy, fun place.

This is an example of a bad image. The image is not suitable because it does not meet the requirements. He is not looking directly at the camera and has hand gestures going on. This is not appropriate and may not be taken seriously.

Sussex Downs AS Media Studies Nicole Carabine

Today we are using blogger to record our progress of creating our new version of the Sussex Downs College magazine. We have to abide by certain rules e.g. when taking our photographs today we need to take our shots from mid-chest up, and include realistic stories.
